You know that sensation of seemingly instantaneous time passage that sometimes occurs when you are quite tired?

You're sitting in a comfortable chair—or maybe even in your bed—and you look at the clock and decide to close your eyes for a minute. The next thing you know, after what seems like a blink, you look at the clock and its hours later but you're feeling a little more rested.

That's how it seems to me since I made the last update to this news channel. Well, not exactly how it seems; in this case, it is twenty-three days later and I feel less rested.

It's Christmas Eve and tomorrow the girls will be seven weeks old. Both seem to be doing very well. Rita is over nine pounds now, Rose is over eight. They are both more alert, make eye contact, and smile a lot. Rose is just starting to make some "goo-goo, ga-ga" babblings and both of them are getting pretty good at lifting their head and looking around.

They are also both very good at crying. When I started writing this item, Rose was sleeping quietly on my lap. But, like her sister, she has a keen ability to detect when the person holding her is comfortable. When she finds that is the case, she makes this sound, which is her way of requesting that you get up and walk around with her. Rita is even more insistent.

Fortunately, we've been getting lots of help. Frankie's nanny, Judi, is a great help during the days. Plus, more often than not, a friend or family member spends the night with us to help with the nighttime feedings--which occur every three hours, around the clock.

Fortunately, too, Frankie continues to be a joy. The other day, while getting him ready to go with Carol to the Mall, Judi asked Frankie, "If you get a chance to sit on Santa's lap and tell him what you'd like for Christmas, what would you ask him for?" "Hmmm," he thought for a minute, then said, "Another baby sister."

"Really?," said Judy, "that's nice."

Then he added, "And a freight truck with a removable trailer with dolly wheels and a door that opens that can load huge, huge, huge, piles of cargo. And a carrier truck that can carry pickup trucks and regular cars and race cars and even convertibles. And maybe another loader or an excavator."
